Calhoun, LA

Gina Rene LaValle, age 63, of Calhoun, LA passed from this life March 15, 2026. Gina was born June 19, 1962 in Wichita, KS to the late Arthur and Naomi Nicholson.

Gina LaValle was a woman of creativity, independence, and unmistakable personality. She lived life on her own terms, with a fierce independence and a spirit that made her both memorable and deeply loved by those who knew her.

Gina had a special talent for finding beauty in unexpected places. She loved antiquing, thrifting, and spending time at garage sales, always on the hunt for a unique treasure or something with a story behind it. What she found often became part of her many arts and crafts projects, where her imagination and resourcefulness truly shined.

Her creativity extended to the home she loved so much. Gina especially enjoyed redecorating her kitchen, happily experimenting with different styles and trends over the years. And when it came to the holidays, no one celebrated quite like Gina. She began decorating for Christmas as early as October, filling her home with warmth, lights, and festive charm—decorations that often stayed up until March because she simply loved the joy they brought.

Her daughter-in-law Ginger fondly recalls one of Gina’s wonderfully inventive moments when the two spent time melting plastic spoons together to turn them into handmade jewelry—just one example of Gina’s playful creativity and willingness to try something new.

In the kitchen, Gina was known for cooking with enthusiasm and flavor, guided by one simple philosophy: butter makes everything better. Her passion for cooking and her generous spirit meant there was always something delicious to share.

Above all, Gina loved fiercely and lived boldly. Her independence, creativity, humor, and warmth left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

She will be remembered for her vibrant personality, her inventive spirit, and the many colorful memories she created with the people she loved. Her legacy lives on in those stories, in the traditions she started, and in the laughter she shared so freely.

Those left to cherish her memory include: two sons Trey LaValle and his wife Ginger, and Alex LaValle; four grandchildren Josiah, Elaina, Emmett, Titus; three sisters Durenda Hardy (Maury), Delta Rushing, and Melinda Verrett; two brothers Myron Nicholson (Billie), and Mitchell Ice; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

A private service will be held at a later date.
